| Welcome |
|
| From 10 to 21 August 2009, Campden BRI will be carrying out a training course on microbiology in food safety practices, for twenty laboratory technicians from developing countries. The training will be carried out at the Campden BRI facility in Gloucestershire, England. |
|
| Project Overview: |
|
- The project is a response to the EU Directorate General Trade microbiological criteria and compliance requirements as proscribed in Regulation (EC) No 2073/2005. These criteria were drawn up as part of a risk-based approach to food safety, and are used to validate food safety management procedures and verify that they are conducted to acceptable standards.
- Food microbiology is a subsidiary discipline in the field of microbiology and is concerned with the study of bacteria, fungi, and viruses that grow in or are transmitted by foods. The most reported causes of food-borne illnesses are of microbiological origin.
- The training activity will involve lectures, laboratory practicals and demonstrations, discussions and group presentations, and will be undertaken over two working weeks.
- The intention of this training activity is that the participants, each from a different developing country, will be well equipped to widely disseminate best practice procedures, and knowledge of EU food safety standards within their own countries. The aim is to facilitate compliance with EU standards, so as to bolster international trade.
- The project is funded by the European Commission, coordinated by Campden BRI, and with logistical support from DEVELOPMENT Solutions Europe.
